Desmond is a young lad, only about 8-10 months old. He was rescued following an urgent plea for help from the Minnedosa Vet Clinic. When they could not go through with a schedule euthanasia after this young boy was brought in by Erickson Animal Control, the called us and asked us to take him… Desmond is nothing short of adorable. He is definitely fine with children and seems to like other dogs. We have seen no indication of cat aggression either – but he has only just arrived in rescue. We will find out a little more about this fella when we move him into a foster home. Desmond is a very nice natured young dog… More information should be posted soon.

Sayuri is Japanese for "small lilly"and this beautiful girl is quite the flower! Sayuri is a 5 year old female Shepherd X Husky picked up at large by Brandon Animal Control. Sayuri looks very much like a Shepherd, and the only hint of Husky are her outstanding baby blues! Sayuri seems to be fine with older kids but has not been exposed to smaller children. She adores people and is friendly with other dogs. Sayuri is very willing to make friends with other dogs, she can be bossy at times and would therefore be best in a home with a more laid back female dog or a male dog. While she has moments of being pushy, this girl is very good with the male dog in her foster home and they eat side by side, even out of the same bowls without issue. Sayuri has also been to the off leash park with her foster dad, and not only was she great with the other dogs - she actually prefers to be by her person and does not take off or wander. Sayuri is extremely interested in being with people and she is very affectionate. She strives for time with her foster dad, but when she is not getting any - she is content to lay on her bed near his or find her crate and relax. Sayuri is 100% housebroken and she is very well mannered indoors. This mature gal is a smart cookie who is willing and eager to please her people. Sayuri doesn't have the same respect for the felines as she has for humans and dogs and would do best in a home without cats. Sayuri is about 50lbs and she is a nice sturdy build. Sayuri is a great gal with a remarkable attitude! (Indoor Home Only!)

Age: Adult

Notes: In the cold month of December, Natasha was found severely tangled up with another dog by ropes, which were tied to the gate entering the Humane Society. They were found early one morning when the shelter manager arrived. After untangling and untying them, they had jumped right into her vehicle and she took them right into the shelter. Natasha's friend has been adopted for quite some time, but she has been at the shelter since that day. It does take some time to earn Natasha's trust, which is extremely understandable after being abandoned in such a way. She gets along with certain dogs very well and after taking her for a walk, she'll become your new best friend. She is a very laid back dog, who doesn't play with toys much and would prefer just to relax and snuggle in her bed, or simply go for a walk. Natasha is in need of a fresh new start to life - a trusting home with owners who will spend a lot of time with her, making her feel loved and an important part of the family. Natasha is a 4 year old friendly female.

Notes: Nikita is a very friendly girl that has been surrendered to our shelter this past year. She loves nothing more than to curl up in her bed or next to you on the couch for a good snuggle! She also has a bit of a "thing" for giving kisses and loves to greet you after you've been away. Nikita's new family should be aware that she is currently on a thyroid medication that she will have to continue with in the future. She adapts well to new surroundings and does very well with other dogs. Nikita is one of the oldest dogs at the shelter and is patiently waiting for someone to fall in love with her.
This pet is up to date with routine shots, and spayed.

I am good with kids, when I came into the shelter, I had alopecia (hair loss 0n my skin, the vet felt it could have been from allergies and malnutrition. I am doing better, but really need to get into a loving family home. Please adopt me.

Toby is also a greyhound cross. At six years old he is very friendly, good natured and out-going. He is the leader of the majority of our dogsled tours, rescued from dogsled racing as he "wasn't quite fast enough" and his skin condition left his nose and eyes looking bad.
Toby definitely won't win any beauty contests, he has the misfortune of being dubbed "The Ugly Sled Dog" and as such we are finding it difficult to find him a home, as it appears everyone wants a pure-bred these days, and when it comes to a sled dog the more photogenic dogs are often considered first. One of our guests this year suggested that I post him on a dog adoption site as "The ugliest sled dog", and then maybe I could find him a home! (I think she was just trying to be helpful)
Given his greyhound mix, he too has little hair, and he deserves to spend his retirement years in a warmer climate with someone who loves and cares for him regardless of his appearance. Toby has great "doggie" self esteem, his body language exudes a personality that is confident, caring and kind around both humans and his dog yard buddies……he thinks he is handsome!

OJ is a 5 year old, greyhound cross. I suspect he had never been off his chain except to run in a harness when I first met him as he was terrified of new people and I had to drag him out of his house just to see him. Gerald and I took him home and kept him indoors for a few weeks so he couldn't hide in his house. He trembled so hard my own body shook when I put my arms around him. It took a few months…..but he no longer shakes now that we have established his trust. He is the most gentled natured dog I have ever known, and he gets along well with all of our other dogs whether free running or in harness. He is my lead dog! After spending the last few years with us in the tourism business he is still a bit shy and quiet around our guests, but he steals the heart of all who meet him when we do our kennel tours. In fact it was one of our guests this season that passed our e-mail address on to you with the hopes we could find him a home in a warmer climate.
It will not be easy for me to let this dog go…..but I know it is for the best, I would like to see him off his chain for good! It would mean a great deal to me if I could stay in touch with whoever adopts him as he has come so far……… until such time as I can find a good home for him, he gets one big hug every day from me whether he runs or not, and he comes out of his house willingly:
One other note……when I free fun him he stays very close by!
