Leya is a 9 month old, spayed female Husky mix.
She is sweet, playful and calm indoors.
She LOVES kids, very friendly and affectionate with other dogs, too!
What a pretty little girl!! Leya has a totally curable skin condition, that is being treated, already much better.
Thanks so much.

Ciara and Skye

They were born Jan 16, 2009 their mother was a malamute mix and their dad was a Siberian husky pure bred.
I knew the person who owned the parents and when they were twelve days old they were going to be disposed of (for the lack of better wording) and I took the first born and last born with the hopes of giving them a good home and gave the remaining 4 puppies to a no kill shelter.
They are the most loving dogs I have ever seen but Ciara is seeming depressed lately probably cuz of lack of exercise ,,, We all love them to death but we cant give them what they need.
Skye is the first born and Ciara is the last born..
They are both wonderful animals with faboulous temperament and character,,, we call them our balls of love because they are so kind and loving.
Ciara can be a little sneaky sometimes and Skye is just playful.
They have not had their shots and are not operated they are going through there first menstrual cycle now.

I can be reached by email at : lasalle_lanata@hotmail.com

Jenna, Rudy and Cindy all came to the shelter together. Jenna is the mother, a mature spayed Husky mix with one blue eye.
Rudy is her son, an 8 year old Lab Husky mix who is neutered. Cindy is her daughter, an 8 year old Lab Husky mix who is spayed.
They are very quiet and well behaved. Sadly, their owner passed away.
Keeping these dogs together would be great, if possible.

Brian is an adult male Husky mix who was found in Bellevue Park June 7th with a wound on his chest. He has recovered and is ready for a new home.

Zephyr is an older neutered male Husky mix who was found on Boundary Rd.

More About No Name:6yr.'red'
He is the more rare type "red husky". This breed can live to the mid-teen years. This is a high energy breed when young, so he will still need regular exercise but can also be a settled companion. Please note that the pink skin/fur loss in photo has the pattern of poor quality food/food allergy; Often a quality fish based (fish & potatoe) food overcomes this. Huskies will run and must be kept secure. This is a courtesy post. Shelter states: "I am a male, red and white Siberian Husky. The shelter staff think I am about 6 years." IF he pulls on leash, an INexpensive Lupi-type harness with straps that tighten behind his shoulders if pulling works well (from pet supply stores, Canadian Tire, etc.). IF needed, please see our housetraining info. for adult dogs on our home page www.maturedogs.petfinder.org Neutering helps to prevent urinary and prostrate issues. Ask about # A03030 at (905) 723-3488 Oshawa.

NukNuk:Good Leash!
Siberian Husky
Medium Senior Male Dog
More About NukNuk:Good Leash!
This breed can live to the mid-teen years. This is a courtesy post for another rescue organisation which states: "Chinook (Nuk Nuk) is a beautiful, 8 year, male Siberian Husky. He is up to date with vaccines and vet checked, neutered and dewormed. He loves to be with his people, lying close to them at all times. Nuk Nuk is very affectionate and a loyal companion inside. He can be left uncrated and he finds a spot and sleeps until your return. A very good dog! He has basic commands such as sit and outside and walk. Walking Nuk is a JOY! He loves his leashed walks ...he doesn't pull, just walks ahead and enjoys the occasional sniff and just being with you. Nuk is NOT a barker even when the doorbell rings, but he does "TALK" from time to time. This talking is very endearing and amazing. He is gentle with (respectful) children* and good with cats and friendly with other dogs (if you have a dog, you must bring to meet). He likes big bones and nylon chewies and loves his cookies (won't take them when stressed though). Nuk needs to be kept secure, huskies run, a known Husky fact and Nuk is no different. Nuk needs a family that is aware of the Siberian Husky and their unique personality. Veterinary reference and home check are required of his lucky adopter." Children* Ask what age he has successful experience with...some children may leave doors or gates open!! Call Friends of Abandoned Pets at 613-729-9820 OTTAWA or go to www.foap.on.ca See disclaimer on our home page.

Siberian Husky
Medium Adult Male Dog
Silver and White Neutered Male Approximately 4 years Disposition: Intelligent, Active Boy! Keiko was originally adopted from the ODHS 2 years ago and has been brought back for adoption as his previous owner's situation has changed and they are no longer able to care for him. Keiko is a very sweet and exceptional husky dog but will need a confident leader to guide him kindly and show him leadership. He is also strong puller on leash and will need to work on this with his new owner(s). Training school is a must as Keiko's new family will need to develop a healthy leadership relationship with him and teach him some good walking skills. Keiko needs a home with ADULTS ONLY as he does not have any previous experience with children and he can be suspicious of new people. Keiko does not appear to have much interest in toys but will very much enjoy a snuggle after being tired out from a long walk. He seems to be okay with cats. Keiko is house trained and neutered.

Blaze

Siberian Husky
Medium Adult Male Dog
Blaze currently lives near Lucknow. He loves to run around his fenced yard and watch the world go by.
He was taken in as a youngster from his owner in 2003 after he had been in the Zurich pound repeatedly for running at large because he was intact and untrained - they got him from someone as payment for towing them. Clearly his owners were not bright enough to match a husky's wits.
He has been living with dogs and cats since then. He also likes kids.
Unfortunately - in the fall of '08 he was attacked by a deaf dog and bitten badly. His wounds were too deep to stitch. He has healed very well and his hair is all grown back.
Blaze was abused in his original home and he is sure he will be hit after all this time. Anyone looking to adopt him must be an experienced siberian husky owner as he will try to outwit anyone he can. They also must be willing to enroll him in obedience training to help strengthen the bond between you and him, socialize him with new male dogs in a controlled environment and get on the same page with training commands and expectations.
He is sure he will not be fed - so he will guard or eat everyone's share of the food. He will often try to take everyone's treats and toys - as many as he can fit in his mouth.
He loves food so much that he will literally catch it in mid air to avoid the risk of not getting it. He often looks like a seagull eating a fish if he finds anything other than dog food to eat - as he gulps it without chewing to ensure he does not miss out.
Blaze is housetrained - if supervised - but will mark if not supervised. He is cratetrained and will go right in when told to.
For his mental well-being - ideally he should go to a home where he can be the only dog, or even better the only animal - so then he can be spoiled as the only dog. Since the attack - living with multiple dogs seems to be a constant strain on his mind as he is absolutely sure he will not get his share of food - even though he always does.
He knows to sit and shake a paw and other paw and lay down. He rides well in the car.
He is excellent getting groomed.
He is excellent in the car.
He enjoys running around the 6 foot high back yard with other dogs all day long. He could not go to a home without a fully fenced yard as he will run off as fast as he can, if given the opportunity.
If you are an experienced siberian husky lover we welcome your application.
Please do not inquire if you are unwilling to complete an application as we MUST have one to ensure he goes to his most compatible and forever home as well - we want to ensure the applicant gets the best match for their home as well.
Please do not appply if you have an intact dog - male or female. He does not need the harassment.
Please do not apply if you are interested in renaming him - he is used to his given name and does not need any more unnecessary changes.
His adoption fee includes his neuter, microchip, rabies vaccine from October 2008, collar and rescue i.d. tag. The adoption fee is $300.
Blaze - purebred is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Hi! My name is Keno. I am a 6 year old Shepherd/Husky cross. Aren’t I handsome??
I have lots of energy and love going for long walks and running with my dog buddies.
I am very smart. I know basic obedience training:I will sit, stay, come, and lie down, shake a paw and off. I am very willing to learn and love to please my human friends.
Since I get along well with other dogs and cats, I can just fit right in to a new home.
My perfect family is someone who has time just for me!!!
I love to be the centre of attention, so if you're an empty nester, why not consider adopting me?
I promise to be a loyal companion and your best friend.
I have been waiting a long time for my forever home. Please call and open your heart to me.
Please note that the animals in our program are available for adoption only to individuals located in the Durham Region area; however we are always happy to refer you to a rescue or shelter in your area. Thank you for your understanding.

Note- we only adopt out to the Durham region (Pickering, Newcastle, Port Perry triangle) Thanks for understanding, we can refer you to other shelters in your area!

This blue-eyed beauty is Sura, a rescue from a sled dog breeding puppy mill. Sura came to B.A.R.K. pregnant, had eight beautiful puppies and is now ready for a life with her very own family. She is about 3 years old, spayed and up to date with her vaccinations. She is also house trained. This sweet and gentle soul was treated badly during her first few years of life, and as such has a well-earned distrust of adults she doesn‘t know, giving unknown adults a wide berth. Once she gets to know someone and understands that they are not going to grab her or hurt her, she will seek out and enjoy their attention. She is very affectionate with myself and my husband, and enjoys the attention of my grandchildren. Sura gets along extremely well with other dogs and will welcome a new dog immediately into her play routine. Her behaviour with cats is unknown. Sura is crate trained and will go into her crate (in our bedroom) at bedtime all on her own but does not like being crated during the day and will get quite frantic. Now, if I have to go out during the day I leave her free in the house with the other dogs and have had no problems at all. In foster care, Sura has become used to having someone home most of the time. Sura needs lots of exercise and, because of the husky tendency to wander, a fenced yard. Obedience training in a group setting will also be very beneficial in helping her to build confidence and trust. This sweet girl is well worth the effort, and will reward her new family with a lifetime of devotion and love.

Nova is a Husky rescued from a sled dog breeding operation. He's between one and two years old. He's very outgoing and absolutely loves people. He's such a charmer that his resucers nicknamed him 'Casanova.' He has many typical Husky tendencies. He is a very active dog, who will need a lot of exercise. He loves long hikes and walks, and has learned to play fetch, bike, rollerblade, and even canoe with his foster family. Like most huskies he is a wanderer so he is not ready to be off-leash yet, though he loves to play in fenced-in dog parks. He can play too rough for some other dogs, but will back down when corrected by an assertive dog, and he is currently fostered with another dog. He is great with kids and has even had some positive cat experience! When he was rescued he had some issues with mouthing and snapping, but he has improved greatly. His behaviour improves significantly when he is well exercised. While he's very active he can also be very relaxed at home and loves snuggling on the couch or snoozing on his bed. He is housetrained and crate trained and is used to being crated during the workday. This loveable guy would make a great addition to your family.

When Nikita came into our care, we thought she was really up there in age. After watching her for a few days, we felt there was something just not right with her and that her obesity wasn't because of food consumption. We had some blood tests done and found she has a bad thyroid. Dr. Pet Vet put her on some pretty blue pills and she began to loose weight in record time. She began to walk faster, breathe easier and stand to eat instead of falling asleep in her dish. She recently went back for more blood work to make sure the med dosage was right and we found she has lost an amazing 40 pounds since we first posted her a few months ago. We updated her shots since we felt she now has her condition under control and she is spayed. Just to be on the safe side we also did a Heartworm test which is negative. She will require her Heartworm meds for the season , which are also inexpensive in comparison to the costs of curing her of heartworm should she contract it . Our vet has her at maybe 5-6 years old and her heart is sound even after carrying around all that tonnage. She still has to loose between 20-30 pounds but that will happen on its own with regular, moderate exercise and her meds which ,by the way, are very inexpensive. She`ll have lots to take home with her . Did we mention why we brought her into care? Her owners were going to euthanize her because she wouldn't play anymore. Well, she not only plays, she can shake a paw, scratch where it itches and walks well on leash if you can keep up to her. She`s happy to be here and shows it by sitting on a foot with her back to her person waiting to be touched. She isn't destructive so sleeps on her blanket at night beside the bed. When its time to get up, she sticks a wet nose into her persons face to let them know she`s `gotta` go. Nikita gets along very well with dogs her age and size and seems to care less about the cats. She hasn't been kid tested but we think she would be fine with older children, 10+. We gave Nikita another chance, now its your turn. She has many more good years to live and love. If you feel Nikita is a good match for your family, please contact us by filling out the online application from our drop down menu or contacting us directly.
