Please understand that Huskies are an energetic breed, smart and family oriented but not for everyone. They have been bred to run for thousands of years, they require an escape-proof fenced yard and supervision. If you expect to be able to train your Husky to stay on the property, don't fool yourself. It is not that the breed is less intelligent than others, just following their basic instinct to run and not stop. They are a pack animal so prefer not to be tied up outside by themselves, they like to be part of the family. IF YOU DO USE TIE OUTS- please remember...Make sure the line is TOO SHORT for a climbing dog to get over the top of any fence. OR, the line is long enough, so the dog who climbs the fence will be able to land completely on the other side. This will prevent potential tragedy from strangulation. Also, body harness type of devices are best, rather that just a plain neck collar for outdoor dogs. Dogs left outdoors on tie outs are easy pickings for any animal who may want to attack.
Choose an older Husky if you want a calmer dog, young Huskies need a lot of exercise and stimulation or they will become bored. A bored Husky can get destructive, that is not their fault. Please don't rush into a Northern Breed Dog only because of their beauty. Be prepared and know what to expect! These dogs are not watchdogs and are independent. Do your research first! Good Luck!

There are active puppy mills all over Canada. Their biggest customers are pet shops, and dog fight rings.

Please consider adopting a rescue dog instead of supporting the greed and abusive practices of puppy mill operators.

For more info on the sad reality of puppy mills, please visit: http://www.nopuppymillscanada.ca

If you have lost a pet, please post it to this website: http://www.canadastrays.com

This page is not always up to date and dogs may have been already adopted out.  Keep trying. Please give some time to upload the full pages, many photos here! MOST RESCUES AND SHELTERS DESPERATELY NEED FOSTER HOMES, please consider it if you can!!

To add or remove provincial adoption listings, please email Michelle Flinta-Godier at mflinta@hotmail.com THANKS!

We take no responsibility for the dogs listed here and have not screened all the animals listed on the site. It is the adopter's responsibility to fully investigate the dog in question. Please note we will list an owner surrender that is not being taken in to foster care by us, we accept small donations to help offset our costs and time.
